BOROUGHWIDE — NEW YORK STATE NURSES ASSOCIATION members at seven safety-net hospitals, including five in Brooklyn, rescinded their 10-day strike notice earlier this week after management agreed to maintain and pay for nurses’ healthcare benefits, according to a release from NYSNA. Nurses hope to settle their contracts by Friday, after which NYSNA membership would vote.
However, 16,700 nurses across seven of the city’s private hospitals, including Montefiore, Mount Sinai, and NewYork-Presbyterian, are still set to strike in five days if no agreement is reached. According to NYSNA, sticking points include healthcare benefits, safe staffing standards and protections from workplace violence.
The seven safety-net hospitals include Flushing Hospital Medical Center, Maimonides Medical Center, One Brooklyn Health’s Interfaith Medical Center, One Brooklyn Health’s Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and Richmond University Medical Center.
