M. sent a note that the furniture design store Audo, a third-gen business out of Copenhagen, seems to have taken a space at 62 Laight, just east of Paisley. I await word on more information (so far two emails have bounced back), but it seemed worth noting immediately that they have a design showroom on N. Moore that opened in June 2024.
The showroom is a great addition to the Tribeca Design District. Audo House, if it is anything like its Copenhagen sister, will be a full-immersion into the design aesthetic. (See the video below.)
The company was originally known as Menu — founded in Denmark by in the 1970s by the grandfather of the current designer and brand director, Joachim Kornbek Engell-Hansen. It was acquired in the past couple years by Lassen and is now part of Flos B&B Italia Group, the high-end design group operating a number of legacy brands in the world of luxury furnishings and lighting, including B&B Italia, Flos, Louis Poulsen, Arclinea, Maxalto, Azucena, FENDI Casa, Audo and Lumens.
In Copenhagen, Audo House is a residence, restaurant, concept shop and workspace conceived of by Engell-Hansen’s father. The aesthetic philosophy is “soft minimalism” — clean lines, earth tones and natural materials.
