Today, January 9, 2025, an announcement was made that New York State is investing millions to assist low to moderate-income households.

According to the announcement from Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, over $68 million will be made available to assist nearly 1,300 low-to-moderate income households across the Empire State, awarded through Homes and Community Renewal.

What and Who Does This Investment Help?

This investment will help to provide individuals, families, older adults, and veterans with financial support to make accessibility upgrades, complete emergency repairs, replace manufactured homes, and receive rental assistance, as well as down payment assistance when purchasing a first home.

Where Is The Investment Heading?

Nine regions throughout New York State will benefit from this investment, including regions of the Southern Tier ($12,775,091 for 191 homes), Mohawk Valley ($6,229,828 for 151 homes), and Central New York ($4,418,000 for 67 homes).

In the Southern Tier region, programs benefiting from this state investment include Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, First Ward Action Council, Tioga Opportunities, the County of Chemung, Village of Waverly, and the Town of Dryden.

For Central New York, programs include the City of Cortland and the Town of Preble, and for the Mohawk Valley region, the City of Oneonta.

According to the announcement, Homes and Community Renewal provides grant funding directly to municipalities and local non-profit organizations. Eligible households can then apply for assistance.
