Brooklyn Park is inviting residents to apply for openings on several city boards and commissions, offering community members a chance to play a direct role in shaping the city’s future. Applications are being accepted through Jan. 31, 2026.

City officials say no prior experience is required—only a commitment to building a strong, inclusive, and forward-looking Brooklyn Park. All city residents are eligible to apply, and applications remain active for one year from the date they are received. Applicants will be contacted when an opening becomes available that matches their interests.

Current openings include multiple district and at-large seats on the Budget Advisory Commission, Community Long-Range Improvement Commission, Human Rights Commission, Planning Commission, and the Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission. Most positions are three-year terms set to expire April 1, 2029, with some partial-term vacancies also available.

Opportunities are also open for younger residents. The city is seeking applicants ages 14–17 to serve as a Youth Liaison to the Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission, as well as Emerging Leaders ages 18–24 for one-year terms expiring April 1, 2027.

City leaders emphasize that boards and commissions play a critical role in advising elected officials on issues ranging from budgeting and land use to human rights, long-term planning, and parks and recreation. Participation allows residents to bring their lived experience, ideas, and voices into local decision-making.

Residents interested in learning more about the commissions or applying are encouraged to visit the City of Brooklyn Park website or submit an application online.
