Beginning in late summer 2023, the NYPD implemented a tactical shift aimed at curbing vehicle thefts, using enhanced intelligence gathering and multi‑agency coordination. That strategy helped drive down grand larceny auto cases boroughwide after a surge the previous year. Despite that progress, early 2026 figures indicate continued monitoring will be necessary.
