Subway service has resumed in time for the morning commute after a 4 train detached in the Bronx on Sunday, briefly halting service and forcing the evacuation of dozens of passengers, according to transit officials.
Police said the train decoupled just after 5:30 p.m. near East 149th Street and Grand Concourse. One car separated from the rest of the train and became stuck on the tracks down the tunnel, according to authorities.
A conductor at the scene said as many as 60 passengers were evacuated from the train.Â
Firefighters and MTA personnel helped passengers exit safely, while NYPD officers assisted at the station.
No injuries were reported.
Downtown 4 and 5 trains experienced significant delays as MTA officials investigated the cause of the derailment.
Several passengers said they were forced to find alternative routes home during the evening commute.Â
