Manhattan High wrestling delivered another strong weekend at the Dodge City Showdown, with the girls capturing the team championship and the boys finishing as runner-up in a deep field.
The Manhattan girls claimed the Dodge City Showdown team title by more than 30 points over Gardner Edgerton and host Dodge City, improving to four-for-four on team championships this season.
Three individual titles led the way, as Alayna Slifer (135), Sophia Hoeme (140) and Tierra Young (145) each finished first. Manhattan’s depth across the lineup again proved decisive, with wrestlers placing in nearly every weight class.
Evelyn Thornburg added a runner-up finish at 125 pounds and reached a milestone in the process, earning her 100th career win to join fellow senior Slifer as the first two girls in program history to reach the mark.
Eva Lucios (100), Kalena Borge (105), Kayla Cramer (130), Erica Li (170) and Lizbeth Moreno (235) each placed third, while Tasia Miller (155) finished fourth. Eleanor Radi took fifth at 120, and Alison Kaupp (115), Lila Lewis (140) and Chloe Ramos (190) each placed sixth. Kimberly Altamarino Cruz rounded out Manhattan’s placements with an eighth-place finish at 110.
The balanced effort allowed Manhattan to separate from the field once again as the season continues to build momentum.
On the boys side, Manhattan finished second overall, highlighted by an individual championship from Cameron Coonrod at 144 pounds.
Despite being without several starters, the Indians stacked points throughout the lineup. Kadin Dibbini (215) and Max Evans-Pryor (175) each finished second, while Franke Force (106) and Liam Nider (190) placed third. Garrison Vikander added a fourth-place finish at 285.
Jonathan Jordan (165) finished sixth, while Benjamin Busch (138), Brecken Crist-Funk (165) and Josiah Borge (113) each placed seventh. Bode Busch (157) took eighth, and Tucker Werth (120) finished ninth.
Andale won the boys team title, with Manhattan settling into the runner-up spot after a strong showing coming out of the break.
The Manhattan girls face a quick turnaround, returning to action Wednesday and Thursday at Newton’s home tournament, while the boys head to Newton on Friday and Saturday.
