ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The NC State Highway Patrol is investigating an Onslow County crash that killed a motorcyclist.
According to Trooper Malcolm Yazzie, on Saturday, just after 8:15 p.m., 53-year-old Juan Rivera, of Hubert, was traveling on Queens Creek Road on his motorcycle.
An SUV, driven by 40-year-old Kethia Massenat, was making a left out of Heron Watch Drive onto Queens Creek Road when Trooper Yazzie says Massenat failed to yield and entered to roadway in front of Rivera.
In an attempt to avoid colliding with the SUV, Rivera laid his bike down. However, he still collided with the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Massenat is charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. She was given a citation and is set to appear in court in April.
The State Highway Patrol is still investigating the deadly crash.
