UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — New York State Police issued 47,711 tickets over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday as part of the “Drive High, Get a DUI” national campaign.

The initiative, which targeted impaired and reckless drivers, began on Dec. 10, 2025, and ended Jan. 1.

The campaign led to the arrest of 767 people for DWI and the investigation of 6,244 accidents, including 13 fatal ones.

State Police used sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers using handheld devices.

They also employed both marked vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles to identify motorists violating the law.

In Central New York, there were 64 DWI arrests, 957 speeding tickets, 76 distracted driving tickets, 137 seatbelt violations and 43 Move Over Law violations, totaling 4,408 tickets.

During last year’s National DWI Crackdown, NYSP issued 45,770 total tickets and arrested 755 people for DWI.


State Police Seize 170 Cars on Thruway for Toll Violations

New York State Police Troop T, in collaboration with the New York State Thruway Authority, seized 170 vehicles and issued over 1,000 tickets during four enforcement operations targeting toll violators on the Thruway.
