HALFMOON, N.Y.— Staten Island’s top wrestlers showed their quality this past weekend in Saratoga County at the Eastern States Classic, a national-level tournament that drew over 500 athletes from more than a dozen states, including both nationally and state-ranked competitors.

Monsignor Farrell High School was well-represented, with several standout performances. Quinn Hunt went 4-1 on the weekend, earning sixth place and handing New York State’s No. 2-ranked wrestler, Danny Dacey of Saratoga Springs, a 16-9 defeat.

Teammate Johnny Bonura also made a strong showing, going 3-2 to secure eighth place, while Albert Lula finished 2-2 for the Lions.

Tottenville’s Tristan Levin battled through a tough bracket, finishing 3-2. His only setback came in a narrow 5-3 loss to NYS No. 3-ranked Vincent Mastriani, who went on to claim second place.

The weekend’s results highlight the depth and talent of Staten Island wrestling, setting the stage for the next big competition. Up next for the borough’s grapplers is the City Championship—the Donald Douglas Memorial Tournament, formerly known as the Mayor’s Cup—which will be held January 17-18 at Michael J. Petrides High School.
