NEW YORK CITY — Three of the city’s largest hospital systems could soon experience staffing shortages. Nearly 15,000 private-sector nurses went on strike on Monday morning.
The nurses are concerned about staffing levels, benefits, and safety.
They are also seeking a pay raise, but at least two hospital systems have stated that the proposed amount is not feasible.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed an executive order declaring a disaster emergency.
The order aims to supplement staffing to maintain patient care.
