A new report from iSelect took a look at employee benefits across all 50 states. The study ranked New York #11 in the entire country for things like health insurance costs, wages, work hours, and paid time off.

Fair Pay for New Yorkers

New York’s average income is just over $78,000 a year, and the minimum wage is $16.50 per hour, which is higher than many other states. The study also found that wage equality is improving, with a wage disparity score of 77.6%, which means that most workers are earning closer to the same pay for the same kind of work.

Reasonable Work Hours

On average, New Yorkers work just over 40 (40.1) hours per week, which is right around the national standard. This means most people are not being overworked to make a living.

The study found that health insurance in New York costs about 10.7% of a person’s income. While insurance is never cheap, New Yorkers pay less of their paycheck toward health coverage compared to residents of many other states.

Room for Improvement With Paid Time Off

One area where New York scored lower was paid time off (PTO). The state only received a PTO score of 3 out of 10, showing that many workers still struggle to get enough vacation or sick days.

Overall Job Satisfaction

New York earned a Job Satisfaction Index Score of 72.4, putting the state solidly in the top tier nationwide. That means most workers in the Empire State feel fairly treated and supported by their employers.
