HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) — Another candidate is throwing his hat in the ring to represent New York State’s 124th Assembly District. On Tuesday, January 13, Andrew “Andy” Fagan formally announced he will be running as a democrat for the seat.
In a statment, Fagan says he’s running because he believes the district needs a better advocate in Albany, adding that he will be a strong voice for the vulnerable, local farms, and small businesses.
Fagan is a Cornell University alum and worked for over 30 years as an executive director at Cornell Cooperative extension in Chemung and Tioga counties. He also served as interim executive administrator of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, where he currently serves on their advisory council.
The assembly seat that Fagan is seeking is currently held by incumbent republican Christopher Friend. Friend was elected in 2010 and sworn in in 2011.
Fagan will face a democratic primary challenge against Elmira resident Anthony Cantando and Miriam Osorio who announced her run earlier this month.
