STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Monsignor Farrell built a 27-0 lead and never looked back in posting a 51-12, non-league wrestling victory over PSAL power James Madison Wednesday at the Lions’ den.
The Lions came out firing at 285 pounds and won the first five weight classes to take a commanding lead.
The Golden Knights, who are 7-0 in the PSAL, got on the board with a pin by Eric Ivry at 132.
The Lions’ Albert Lula picked up a late victory at 138 on a reversal and near fall with just 18 seconds remaining to defeat Monte Badalyan.
The Knights secured decision at 144 by Maxim Sarkissian, winning 5-3 to close the gap a bit.
The Lions then stepped on the gas, winning the next four bouts at 150, 157, 165, 175 to pull away.
Picking up those big Farrell wins were Sebastian Georges (150), Joe DiMaria (157, pin), Anthony Taylor (165, pin) and John Bonura (175, pin).
Closing out the match for the Lions was Sam Figueroa at 215 with a pin.
“To be fair the Golden Knights were down a few horses due to injury,” said Farrell head coach Peter Hamm.
