The New York Giants have landed their top target, agreeing to terms with Super Bowl champion John Harbaugh on a five-year contract worth approximately $100 million. The deal, not yet officially signed, is expected to be finalized soon, with Harbaugh’s introductory press conference scheduled for next week.

Just 48 hours after his abrupt firing by the Baltimore Ravens, Harbaugh already sounded like the Giants’ coach during a phone interview.

Not only did he refer to the Giants as “we,” but he also expressed to The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor that he believes “his” Giants will win some games in 2026.

Two days after he was fired by the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh used the word “we” when he talked about the New York Giants. He did not catch himself or correct himself in our phone conversation, because it sounded right. It felt right.

He was picturing himself in that tunnel and on that sideline wearing the cap, jacket and colors of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. Again, he was only 48 hours removed from a phone call with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti that separated him from 18 years of earnest and accomplished work, and he was already picturing himself leading the big team in the big city to victory.

“I think we can win games next year with this roster and the players coming back,” Harbaugh said.

Although Harbaugh had additional interviews scheduled with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons, it has now become clear his path was always going to lead him to East Rutherford. He was a Giant before he was a Giant.
