NEW YORK — HALF A MILLION HOMES in Brooklyn may get clean, renewable wind energy after all, following Thursday’s decision by a federal judge to side with Equinor and other providers of offshore wind, Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a release. The Trump administration had issued a stop work order on wind energy projects that had been underway for years, including the massive port project at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Sunset Park.
“I’m sick and tired of having to go to court time and time and time again to stop these decisions. They’re designed to do nothing other than hurt workers, hurt our states, hurt our economy and hurt our energy future,” Hochul said.
“Despite the good news of these decisions, they still do not ensure that these projects will be completed,” cautioned Rob Freudenberg, vice president for Energy & Environment at the Regional Plan Association. He noted that the court rulings are temporary injunctions that allow the companies to continue to build while lawsuits make their way through the courts.
