A large, four-alarm fire tore through part of southwest Yonkers late Friday night, damaging multiple buildings and prompting road closures, according to city officials.
The blaze broke out around 160 School St. in the School Street neighborhood and quickly escalated, drawing firefighters from Yonkers and neighboring departments, the Yonkers fire and police departments said in a series of Facebook updates.
As many as 50 people may have been displaced as a result of the fire, according to ABC7, which reported that heavy fire activity could be seen across the block as crews worked to contain the blaze.
The outlet said the fire spread rapidly among closely spaced structures and vehicles before additional alarms were called.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was not known early Saturday.
The Yonkers Fire Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
