Here is the official statement from Fiorentina about owner Rocco B. Commisso, who passed away on Saturday.
Commisso, who also owned the New York Cosmos for five years, was 76.
The statement:
With great sorrow and sadness, the Commisso family with his wife Catherine, their children Giuseppe and Marisa and their sisters Italia and Raffaelina, announce the passing of President Rocco B. Commisso.
After a prolonged period of treatment, our beloved President has left us and today we all mourn his passing.
For his family he was an example, a guide, a loyal and faithful man who next to his wife Catherine reached the milestone of 50 years of marriage and with his children he was a strict and amiable father, as was his character, sweet and decisive.
His love for Fiorentina was the most beautiful thing he gave himself, spending unforgettable days with the boys and girls of the youth teams, with a caress and a smile always for everyone. Unstoppable, he worked until his last days, dedicating himself to his companies Mediacom and Fiorentina and to the future of these.
Football was his love and Fiorentina became one seven years ago when Rocco took command of the Viola club and began to love its fans, the colors and the city of Florence.
“Call me Rocco” he had simply said to everyone, with his extraordinary empathy. And he has always been close to Florence and the Florentines, in everyday life and even in the most difficult period of the Covid emergency when the ‘Forza e Cuore’ campaign allocated large donations to city hospitals.
The Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park, the ho”e of Fiorentina, will live forever bearing his name. An indelible sign of the affection and desire to look to the future of young people. Just ‘his’ boys who grew up in the academy, winning youth trophies and continuing their path in the first men’s and women’s teams of Fiorentina. Under his leadership, Fiorentina reached two Conference League finals and one Coppa Italia final.
The Commisso family would like to thank all those who have been close to him in these delicate moments and is sure that the memory and memory of Rocco will remain forever in the hearts of the many people who loved him and who spent difficult moments and beautiful moments with him.
A big thought in such a sad moment goes to all the people of Fiorentina, staff, players, employees, to all the people who knew Rocco, to all the Viola people and above all to all those boys and girls who will continue to bring the purple colors and the memory of our Rocco to Italy and the world.
We miss you and we will always miss you.
