The New York Giants have their new head coach.

John Harbaugh and the club officially finalized a five-year contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday.

“This is the New York Giants,” Harbaugh told ESPN. “I’m proud and honored to be the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.”

Harbaugh, 63, was fired by the Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 6 after 18 seasons with the team. Over that span, he went 180-113 with 12 postseason appearances and a Super Bowl win in February 2013.

A longtime special teams coordinator before getting the Ravens job in 2008, Harbaugh will have to bring in coordinators on both sides of the ball to dictate how the Giants will play. He’s had plenty of success doing that in the past, with nine of his former assistants becoming NFL head coaches.

Since moving on from Super Bowl-winning coach Tom Coughlin after the 2015 season, the Giants have cycled through six coaches (including two interims). The team has just two playoff appearances and one playoff win over that 10-year stretch, with eight losing records.

New York fired Brian Daboll in the middle of the 2025 season after he went 20-40-1 over three-and-a-half years. Mike Kafka was 2-5 as the interim head coach — with a two-game winning streak to end the season.

While the last few years have been grim for the Giants, they have plenty of young talent on the roster. The rookie duo of quarterback Jaxson Dart (24 total touchdowns) and running back Cam Skattebo (7 total touchdowns) flashed potential star power. Other players like receiver Malik Nabers (22), tackle Andrew Thomas (26), defensive end Brian Burns (27) and outside linebacker Abdul Carter (22) are among the team’s building blocks.

Here are five things to know about New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Harbaugh has plenty of experience working with young quarterbacks, notably Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson. He won a Super Bowl with Flacco, who was drafted months after Harbaugh was hired. Jackson didn’t find the same postseason success with Harbaugh, but he won league MVP twice.

The Giants own the No. 5 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, with obvious needs at offensive line, wide receiver and cornerback. Key free agents set to hit the open market in March include receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and O-lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.
