There is a new source of renewable energy in the city of Buffalo.

The ribbon was cut on a new 3.59 megawatt solar project on Elk Street on Monday.

Sitting just north of the Buffalo River, the site was once part of an ExxonMobil tank farm. Now, the company Clean Capital said the location will serve as an energy asset for the community.

“We are now in a time across New York, where we need as much renewable energy as we can to meet the Economic demand we’re seeing from data centers,” said Jon Powers, president of Clean Capital. “Projects like this will help bring electricity to the grid and to the residents of Western New York.”

This project is estimated to produce enough electricity to serve more than 434 homes annually.Â
