At least nine people were injured, including firefighters, in an early morning fire in the Ringwood section of Queens on Saturday, January 17, 2026, according to reports.
The three-alarm fire occurred around 4 a.m. at an apartment building on Flushing Avenue, and reportedly began in a tire repair shop on the ground floor before quickly spreading to the second and third floors, ABC 7 reported. More than 120 Fire Department of New York (FDNY) personnel responded to the scene.
“Units attempted an aggressive interior attack, but due to the volume of fire and a localized collapse in the rear of the store, we were forced to transition to an exterior operation,” said FDNY Assistant Chief David Simms. Chief Simms told reporters that the deep-seated fire involved thousands of tires, with several members sustaining minor burns. Five residents of the building were also injured, the Daily News reported.
