The New York Yankees have lost multiple key players in free agency this offseason, and they could be bound to lose a few more before the winter is over.

Cody Bellinger is the best free agent left on the market this winter. He seems bound to sign a massive deal with one of the two New York teams. Paul Goldschmidt is also a free agent, but the Yankees seem content with him signing elsewhere.

Just Baseball’s Ryan Finkelstein predicted Goldschmidt would leave the Bronx and sign a one-year, $5 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

New York Yankees infielder Paul Goldschmidt

“Paul Goldschmidt may not be a top 20 free agent left on the board, but I had to slide him onto this list because I think I know where he is going to sign,” Finkelstein wrote. “Now that his former teammate (Nolan Arenado) has joined his first team (D-backs), Paul Goldschmidt is looking like a great fit in Arizona.

“With the left-handed hitting Pavin Smith set to start at first base, Goldy could form a platoon there, or could even push Smith to DH some if they wanted him to play every day. Smith has had injury concerns in the past, so Goldschmidt could hedge those concerns a bit.”

Goldschmidt isn’t likely to make a huge impact down the final stretch of his career, but he could still contribute to a solid team.

The Diamondbacks would be the perfect fit. It would also allow Goldschmidt to end his career with the team that he played his best seasons with. This wouldn’t break the bank for the Diamondbacks, but it would move them in the right direction.
