STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man was fatally attacked by a pit bull at a home in New Dorp Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 7 p.m. at 608 New Dorp Lane, according to preliminary information provided by an NYPD spokesperson.

Upon arrival, officers found a 59-year-old man with severe dog bite wounds about the body. FDNY/EMS responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

An NYPD Emergency Services Unit removed the dog from the home and transported it to the ASPCA, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the incident.

There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
