Rochester, N.Y. – RCSD student musicians joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for a special “I Have a Dream” concert on Sunday afternoon.
The event, designed as a celebration for the entire family, featured a series of musical selections that brought Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy to life.
The concert series is part of the city’s broader efforts to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is officially observed on Monday.
“Music to me is that common denominator that goes beyond words,” said Rochester Philharmonic Conductor Herb Smith. “The whole point of music is harmony, is playing together. If it’s not harmony, then it’s either cacophony or its unison and we want unity. So, music is the perfect way to demonstrate Martin Luther King’s dream.”
In addition to the concert, the City of Rochester will host several events in honor of Dr. King’s enduring impact.
