STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Get ready for a cold snap. Forecasters predict that NYC will see some single-digit temps this week — and while there’s no major snow accumulations on the horizon, the deep freeze is expected to linger for several days.

“At the start of the week we’re going to see a zone of high-pressure move into the region which will keep Staten Island pretty dry,” noted AccuWeather meteorologist Alyssa Glenny. “There may be an opportunity for a stray flurry Wednesday evening, but those chances are fairly low, only about 10%.”

But the main story for the week is the cold, Glenny said.

“On Friday night we could have a low of 8 degrees in the city, and it will remain pretty cold in the region for the whole weekend,” the meteorologist said. “We might have highs in the teens by the following week; Monday or Tuesday we could even get back up into the lower to mid-20s.”

Unfortunately, Glenny says the cold is predicted to stick around for the rest of the month.

“It depends on how far the Arctic cold nudges southward,” Glenny said. “We’re still monitoring whether or not we will see a continuation of those highs in the 20s.”

The next chance for some slight snow accumulations is also this weekend: Glenny notes there may be a brief period of snow Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

“We’re not looking at anything too notable,” she said. “It could be something along the order of a coating to an inch, if that.”
