A faster and more efficient New York State Division of Motor Vehicles is on the horizon with a new system and software upgrade.
Having lived in several states throughout the Northeast, as far as state motor vehicle divisions go, I can tell you from personal experience that New York already has one of the best. Online options are robust, and I have found that conducting business in person has always moved along efficiently. And now it looks like the service will become even smoother next month.

NY DMV Plans Long Overdue Updgrade To Systems and Software
According to a report from News 10, a new “state-of-the-art” system upgrade is set to be implemented next month. NY DMV Commissioner Mark J. F. Schoreder tells News 10 some of the current systems “…date back to the days of Nelson Rockefeller…” and the update “…will give our staff the ability to serve New Yorkers better, faster, and more comprehensively than ever before.”
The New York DMV website says all offices and services will close statewide at 2 pm on Friday, February 13th, and will reopen on Wednesday, February 18th. During this period, phone and online systems will also be shut down to accommodate the system and software upgrade.
