NEW YORK, N.Y. — Kingston High’s indoor track and field team continued to pile up medals and set personal records in a standout performance at the Steve Borbet Invitational at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City on Friday, Jan. 16.

Junior Hazel Lewis led the Kingston athletes by finishing runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 20.12 seconds. Her time was just .04 seconds off her school-record mark of 2:12.08.

Lewis’ time ranks her among the top three among New York state scholastic girls in the 800 and is ranked in the top 100 in the country.

Junior Charlotte McFarland started off the evening for the Tigers by running a 5:16.04 full mile, which earned her a fifth-place finish. It was a seven-second personal record for McFarland and No. 2 all-time on the Kingston girls’ indoor list.

McFarland’s time also placed her among the top 25 in New York.

Junior Marcode Campbell finished fourth overall in the boys’ 200-meter race with a personal-record time of 22.92 seconds, which was also third-best all-time at Kingston. Campbell’s time puts him No. 32 in the state in the event.

Sophomore Kai’Lynn Hagen ran a personal-best of 26.44 seconds in the 200, eclipsing her previous top time of 27.43 seconds. She finished fourth in the New York City event.

Lewis, McFarland, Campbell, and Hagen will all look to break school records in their events later this season, according to Kingston coach Joe Cahill.

Sophomore Julian Etuk cleared the 20-foot mark for the first time with a leap of 20 feet, 0.5 inches in the boys’ long jump. It was a three-inch personal best for Etuk.

Senior Richard Sullivan threw the first 40-foot shot put of his career. Sullivan earned 10th place with a throw of 40-9 1/4.

Other personal records from Kingston girls were established by Hagen (55 meters), Kylee Dziomba (55 meters), Stella Spiro (55 meters), Maeve Paul (600 meters), Madeline Sykes (600 meters), and Macie Hurley (mile).

Other personal records from boys on the Tigers’ squad were set by Maddix Williams (55 meters, 200 meters), Ethan Pitt (55 meters, triple jump). Ruben Derisse (300 meters), Ryan Hasbrouck (600 meters), Redi Felton (800 meters), Caleb Storenski (1000 meters), Jackson Beesmer (mile), and Chase Petrie (shot put).

Kingston’s boys and girls teams will next travel to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Jan. 23.
