MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – On Tuesday, Governor Phil Scott will deliver his state budget address and outline his vision for the state.
The budget, expected to be over $9 billion, funds all government programs and critical services. However, this year, the governor and state lawmakers will grapple with growing budget pressures.
Federal COVID money has dried up, costs are rising across the board, and leaders have their eyes on federal cuts to housing, heating assistance, and health care.
There’s also a massive hole in how Vermont funds its roads and bridges, which could result in the loss of over $100 million.
You can watch the entire speech live on our website or the WCAX app. Special coverage begins at 1 p.m.
In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul is also preparing for her budget address.
Hochul made a number of proposals in her State of the State address, including a $4.5 billion investment to make pre-k accessible for all 4-year-olds by 2028-29.
We’ll also have full coverage of the major proposals and how the governor plans to pay for them on our Tuesday night newscasts.
