Brooklyn Peltz Beckham has broken his silence about his estrangement from his parents, saying he does not want to reconcile with his family.

In a statement shared on his Instagram story, the 26-year-old offered his explanation for the alleged rift.

He wrote: “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

“All we want [is] peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”

His statement runs across multiple stories on Instagram, where he has 16.1 million followers.

Brooklyn, the son of footballer Sir David Beckham and former Spice Girl, Lady Victoria Beckham, married Nicola Peltz in 2022. She is the daughter of American billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and former model Claudia Heffner Peltz.

The other members of the Beckham family have not responded, including Sir David, who refused to answer questions from Sky News as he arrived at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss town of Davos on Tuesday to record a podcast.

‘Do you have a message for Brooklyn?’

In his posts, Brooklyn made a series of allegations, including that he had “been controlled by my parents for most of my life”; “received endless attacks” from them; and they had “been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship”.

In addition, Brooklyn said there were tensions around his wedding to Nicola in 2022. He wrote: “My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour… forcing her to urgently find a new dress.”

Brooklyn: Mum called me ‘evil’

He claimed Victoria called him “evil” during a row over seating at the wedding and she “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola by dancing “inappropriately” with him.

He added that he had never felt more “uncomfortable or humiliated” in his entire life.

He also wrote that his parents “attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name” and “my holdout affected the payday and they have never treated me the same since”. It is unclear from the statement exactly what this refers to.

‘Brand Beckham comes first’

Brooklyn continued: “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media.

“Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.

“Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last summer.”

Sky News arts and entertainment correspondent Katie Spencer said the distance between Brooklyn and his family had been interpreted in the media as evidence of Nicola’s controlling influence.

She said the extraordinary six-page statement was about challenging that suggestion.

‘Controlled by my parents’

Brooklyn wrote: “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life.

“I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”

Spencer also highlighted how the rift in the Beckham family had become evident by Brooklyn’s absence from their public appearances.

She said: “He was noticeably absent from significant events like his dad’s 50th. There was no comment made when his dad was knighted.

“At Christmas, the papers reported that he’d blocked his mum for liking quite a sort of innocuous, innocent post that he’d made about cooking.”

Brooklyn alleged that his wife has been “disrespected” by his family and his dad only agreed to see him under the condition that his wife was not invited.

Sir David and his wife have been contacted for comment.
