Significant lake effect snow continues east of Lake Ontario Tuesday evening. Snow east of Lake Ontario shifts northward and gradually weakens overnight into Wednesday morning, eventually tapering by midday.
Wednesday will be blustery and not as frigid with additional snow showers moving through during the afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the 20s to near 30, with wind chills in the single digits and teens.
Snow shower chances continue into Thursday with lake effect snow redeveloping east of Lake Ontario in the evening. Highs will be in the 20s/30.
Lake effect will persist east of Lake Ontario into Friday before dropping into Central New York and weakening Friday night into Saturday.
Frigid temperatures return once again Friday through the weekend. Highs likely only in the teens for many of us this weekend.

3. Syracuse official addresses concerns over pace of water pipe replacements
Members of the Syracuse Public Works and Infrastructure Committee met on Tuesday. The conversation focused on the city’s effort to replace lead pipes. Some councilors were concerned the process was not moving fast enough. City Water Commissioner Robert Brandt said that while he understands the concerns, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given the city 10 years to complete the necessary work.

The Angola rest stop on the New York State Thruway is fully operational after travelers were stranded there overnight. The Thruway Authority said drivers had to pull into the service area due to heavy snowfall, strong winds and freezing temperatures.
