“What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani thundered Tuesday on “The View” to explain why “I am in support of abolishing ICE”; somehow none of the crack policy analysts on ABC’s chat show thought to ask him what federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement is meant to.

Hand it to the mayor: He knows how to preach to his fangirls.

Problem is, the agency’s “reason to exist” is find, arrest and deport criminal illegal immigrants — rapists, murderers, pedophiles, drug dealers and other heinous goons.

Sadly, a lot of them got waved into the US interior in the Biden years; getting them out is a major public-safety priority.

Yet somehow Mamdani and the rest of the American left has rushed right back to their #AbolishICE battle cry of the pre-Biden years.

They still demand open borders, still insist illegal immigration in violation of US law isn’t a crime.

Hence he pretends enforcement is all “about people whose crimes simply seems to be being in New York City”; in reality, if local politicians would cooperate as ICE goes after the worst of the worst, it wouldn’t be out in the neighborhoods where more-pacific illegal migrants live.

But the new mayor has gone so far as to toss his predecessor’s order that let Homeland Security and other federal law enforcers monitor Tren de Aragua and other gangs inside Rikers.

That is, he’s protecting the worst guys while pretending to care for other immigrants that the gangs prey upon.

Homeland Security has listed 7,000 illegal-immigrant gangbangers it’s expelled this last year; it might’ve been twice or three times as many if blue-state leaders weren’t at war with the feds.

Fine; you can fault Team Trump’s leaders for seeming to want to play the cartoon-villain roles that the left assigns — but that doesn’t make ICE’s work any less vital for protecting the public.

Even now, the agency’s behaving in red states pretty much as it did under President Barack Obama, when the left whined about such law enforcement but didn’t pretend it amounted to a fascist night falling on America.

It’s the anti-ICE lunatics who are causing chaos, with every intent to make it worse.

Here in New York, the mayor’s old Democratic Socialist comrades are recruiting and training 4,000-plus activists to do Minneapolis-style “rapid response” obstruction of feds trying to arrest hard-core-criminal illegal immigrants.

Mamdani’s preaching to Whoopi and the girls is a tacit signal he wants needless violence on Gotham’s streets.
