JAMAICA ESTATES, Queens (WABC) — A brazen home invasion was caught on security video in Queens, showing a crew break into a house, allegedly looking to steal a luxury car.

What they don’t know is that the homeowner was armed.

The homeowner says home invasions are happening more often in the neighborhood.

“They popped this open and that’s when I realized somebody was breaking in,” the homeowner said.

The burglar barged in through the window in the middle of the night, using a flashlight on their phone to rummage around the kitchen.

“He comes over here, peeks, because he knows I’m yelling from over there,” the homeowner said.

What they thought was an easy job became a burglar’s worst nightmare.

“I’m like I have a gun don’t move,” the homeowner said.

The homeowner had his gun drawn but something happened.

“I pull the trigger and the gun jams. By whatever divine intervention, the gun doesn’t shoot,” the homeowner said.

The burglar ran for their life, quite the opposite from how he and his crew strutted onto the homeowner’s property to break in.

“Both of my cars are in the driveway. My lights turned on as soon as they approached the front gate. And so they knew somebody was home. But they didn’t seem to care,” the homeowner said.

The homeowner said his wife and kids were also home at the time of the home invasion.

He said the burglars apparently wanted his Bentley and were looking for the keyfob before they ran into a gun and ran out of the house.

“The detectives told me. There was a dispatch for three other burglaries. Two of them were successful; they stole another Porsche and a Range Rover,” the homeowner said.

It happened to be the one night he did not activate his home’s alarm system.

He is licensed to conceal carry.

The home invasion in the affluent neighborhood of Jamaica is prompting the Bukharan community to issue an alert to Jewish residents who might be on vacation for Yeshiva.

“If they want to come back let them. This time the gun won’t be jammed. Hopefully, it won’t get there. But I don’t feel like I have a target on my back because everybody here is a target – it’s a collective community,” the homeowner said.

Police are looking for the three suspects involved in the incident.
