A man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon inside a Queens building that contains supportive housing for formerly incarcerated women, police said.

NYPD officials said 36-year-old Samuel Alston was shot in his back around 3:45 p.m. inside the building on 12th Street and 36th Avenue in Dutch Kills. Paramedics took him in critical condition to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they are looking for a male suspect who ran away from the site and was last seen in all-black clothing. They said they are still investigating a potential motive and had no further details.

Public records show the supportive housing facility is run by the nonprofit Hour Children, which did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment early Wednesday.

Alston’s death is this year’s first homicide in the 114th Precinct, which covers Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights, according to NYPD data. There were two homicides in the precinct last year, the data shows.

This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
