Selena Gomez was once inseparable from Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham — so close, in fact, that she jokingly referred to herself as part of their “throuple.” But these days, the once-public friendship appears noticeably distant, leaving fans wondering what went wrong.

The trio’s friendship began in late 2022 after they connected at the Academy Museum Gala in October of that year. From there, they quickly became a fixture in each other’s lives — vacationing together, spending holidays as a group and even getting matching tattoos. In January 2023, Selena leaned into the dynamic, captioning an Instagram post, “Fine call us [sic] us a throuple #foreverplusone.”

However, fans started to notice the distance when Selena was absent from Brooklyn and Nicola’s vow renewal in August, and when the couple didn’t attend Selena’s own recent, star-studded wedding. But there was no dramatic fallout behind the shift, a source told People in November 2025.

“There’s no bad blood,” the insider said, pushing back on claims that Selena felt “betrayed” or was cut off. “Relationships evolve, and it’s true they’re not as close as they once were, but there wasn’t any one thing that happened.”

The insider confirmed the missed events weren’t due to tension. “There’s nothing but love and well wishes from them for Selena and Benny [Blanco],” the source said, adding that scheduling and shifting priorities played a role.

While Selena has kept her focus on her personal life and career, Nicola and Brooklyn have been navigating far more complicated family dynamics — particularly with Brooklyn’s famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham.

That tension came to a head in January 2026, when Brooklyn released a lengthy and deeply personal statement accusing his parents of years of interference and emotional distress. In the post, Brooklyn claimed Victoria disrupted his April 2022 wedding to Nicola, alleging she “cancelled making Nicola’s dress” and “hijacked” their first dance.

“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everybody. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” Brooklyn wrote.

Nicola ultimately wore a custom Valentino gown, which her stylist Leslie Fremar said had been planned well in advance. “It was the ultimate couture experience,” Fremar told Vogue, noting multiple trips to Valentino’s Rome headquarters and U.S. fittings.

Nicola later addressed the dress controversy herself. “She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it,” she told Variety, explaining that Victoria’s studio simply couldn’t make the dress in time.

In 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola quietly renewed their vows in Florida with fewer than 20 guests — notably without any members of the Beckham family in attendance. “We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment,” Brooklyn wrote on Instagram.

Fueling the controversy further, wedding guest Stavros Agapiou later backed up Brooklyn’s account of the first dance, writing in a now-deleted Instagram comment, “I was there and she did, he’s telling the truth,” before adding, “Good on him for finally speaking out!”

The Beckham family has yet to publicly respond.
