Nate McMurray in a video announced his candidacy for New York’s 145th Assembly District.
Current assemblyman, Republican Angelo Morinello, will not seek reelection and will retire after his term is up at the end of the year.
Former Niagara County Legislature chairwoman Rebecca Wydysh, who announced her candidacy last week, has been endorsed by Morinello as his replacement.
The district includes Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Grand Island and Lewiston. The election will be held in November.
As a Democrat, McMurray ran for the 26th Congressional District seat in 2018, losing to Republican Chris Collins, and in 2020, losing to Republican Chris Jacobs. In February 2023, he announced he would run for Erie County executive, but dropped out of the race just a few weeks later. In January 2024, he announced his intention to run for the 26th Congressional District seat, but dropped out that February.
He was elected as Grand Island town supervisor in 2015 and served in that role until 2019.
