The New York Giants have their new head coach in John Harbaugh, but the rest of their coaching staff hires may have to wait.

With 10 NFL teams making a change at head coach, the assistant market has stagnated as teams are circling the wagons to protect their valued staffers until the market calms down. Meanwhile, team who have coaches under contract are not required to grant permission to other teams for interviews, unless the job is a promotion.

Harbaugh may be seeking to bring some of his assistants from his previous job with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens, however, are balking.

Until teams can get more clarity on who each franchise is hiring as a head coach, expect the market to remain slow. The Giants, in the meantime, have been going over their own coaching roster with Harbaugh to see if there is anyone he would consider retaining.

One such name that has cropped up is that of offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo. The Giants, after years of subpar play up front, have finally made some headway in that unit. Even Harbaugh’s father, Jack, has urged his son to keep Bricillo in the fold.

The rumors circulating are that Harbaugh is seeking his former offensive coordinator in Baltimore, Todd Monken, for the sme spot here in New York. He has also floated the name Rex Ryan as a possible candidate for defensive coordinator.
