SPUYTEN DUYVIL, The Bronx (PIX11) – A Port Authority police officer is believed to have been involved in an alleged murder-suicide in The Bronx Thursday morning, sources tell PIX11 News.
Mario Garcia, 55, is suspected of shooting his 86-year-old mother and 59-year-old sister before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life, sources say.
Police received a 911 call at 7:57 a.m. reporting a shooting inside an apartment on Johnson Avenue in the Bronx, police officials said.
Multiple people were shot inside, according to the NYPD.
A 55-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were shot in the head, and both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An 86-year-old woman was shot in the face, transported to a hospital in critical yet stable condition, and is expected to survive.
The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but sources say Garcia, who had been an active officer for 23 years, had no reported issues at work.
Garcia used a non-service weapon for the shooting, police sources said.
Sources believe this incident was a murder-suicide.
