QUEENS, NY — An NYPD officer has been placed on modified duty after he shot an aggressive raccoon on a Queens boardwalk last week, according to reports.

The incident happened near Beach 121st Street and Ocean Promenade in Belle Harbor on Jan. 22 around 7:45 p.m.

Officers tried to get the animal away from the boardwalk when it suddenly charges towards a group of people in an “aggressive manner,” police said.

Bodycam footage obtained by the New York Post and Daily News shows officers walking up to the raccoon as they try to move it away before the incident.

An officer at the scene fired one shot which hit and killed the animal.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is investigating the incident.
