Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg asked a New York judge to schedule Luigi Mangione’s state murder trial for July 1, two months before the 27-year-old is set to go on trial on federal charges.

Both state and federal authorities are prosecuting Mangione over the fatal December 2024 shooting of UnitedHealth Group Inc. executive Brian Thompson. Bragg’s office on Wednesday told New York state judge Gregory Carro the district attorney’s case should go first, arguing that federal prosecutors did not become involved until two weeks after Thompson was murdered.
