An heir to the Jose Cuervo fortune has officially decided to part with his apartment at Manhattan’s 432 Park Avenue.
Mexican billionaire Juan Beckmann Vidal listed the 84th-floor unit last week for $75 million, though in November he had planned to list it for $90 million before changing course, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time.
Vidal, 85, bought the unit from the developers—Los Angeles-based CIM Group and Harry Macklowe’s Macklowe Properties—in 2017 for about $44.6 million using an LLC, records show. Prior to closing, however, Vidal sued the developers, alleging the unit had been damaged by a “catastrophic flood.” The lawsuit was discontinued a few months later, but it made Vidal one of the first owners at 432 Park Avenue to allege construction defects at the since-troubled Manhattan skyscraper.
Since then, Vidal completely renovated the 5,400-square-foot unit over five years, spending more than $10 million, according to the listing with Fredrik Eklund, Joe Wagner, Kyle Lee and Ryan Stenta of Douglas Elliman. They declined to comment.
The home’s new interiors are in stark contrast to the standard design of the building’s units, which tend toward a modern minimalist aesthetic typical of New York’s high-end new developments.
Instead, Vidal’s apartment is Versailles-inspired, with statement chandeliers and elaborate moldings and cornicing, listing photos show. There’s also handcrafted boiserie—a French term for intricately carved wood paneling—and Italian marble featured, according to the listing description. The new interiors are by designer Miles Redd.
