Kids will ‘Spin to Win’ at Brooklyn Children’s Museum event

CROWN HEIGHTS — THIS THURSDAY, OCT. 23, BROOKLYN CHILDREN’S MUSEUM (BCM) IS OFFERING AN AFTERNOON OF HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS demonstrating how to make a big difference for planet earth. The BCM collaborated with the National Grid to celebrate Energy Awareness Month. Bright Habits Powered by National Grid, a free program from 2 to 5 p.m., runs as part of the museum’s community access hours on Thursday afternoons.

Through storytelling, hands-on experiments and creative play, kids will discover how everyday choices can make a real difference for the environment. The afternoon will feature two special read-aloud sessions: National Grid staff will read from eco-friendly children’s books at 2:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., author Charnaie Gordon will read from her book “A Planet Like Ours.”

Young engineers can participate in BCM’s Nature’s Engineers STEM makerspace, tackling the “Spin to Win” challenge by building wind turbine blades and testing their designs to see which generates the most power and thus earns a spot on the leaderboard.
