Queen guitarist Brian May has ruled out future performances in the United States, citing safety concerns about the country.
“America is a dangerous place at the moment, so you have to take that into account,” the 78-year-old rock legend told the Daily Mail in an interview.
The legendary rock band, which toured with American Idol alum Adam Lambert, last performed in the United States in 2023. While May didn’t specify what dangers concerned him about America, his comments come as ICE raids and protest clashes have made international headlines in recent weeks.
“It’s very sad because I feel like Queen grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it was. Everyone is thinking twice about going there at the moment,” May stated.
The guitarist, who suffered a minor stroke in September 2024 that temporarily affected movement in his left arm, has been focusing on his health. Despite health concerns, May has remained active, performing twice with singer Benson Boone at Coachella and in London following his recovery.
When asked about Queen’s future plans, May remained noncommittal: “I don’t know when Queen will be back on stage – it’s an unknown. We’ll take it day by day.”
