For the second straight night at the Mid America Classic, Manhattan High girls’ basketball made quick work of its opponent.
The Indians jumped out early and never looked back Friday, rolling past Andover Central 73-40 in the semifinals at the Roundhouse to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship game.
Manhattan wasted little time setting the tone, opening the night with a 24-8 first quarter and extending the margin to 43-19 by halftime. Much like the tournament opener, the damage was done early as the Indians overwhelmed Andover Central.
Manhattan’s offense was sharp throughout, shooting 56.9% from the field and 53.8% from three-point range, while placing four players in double figures.
Senior Delaney Larson led the way with 17 points, while sophomore Evie Banks added 15. Kat Ball finished with 12 points, and Jelena Depusoir posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds as Manhattan showcased its balance across the floor.
The Indians also leaned on their depth, receiving 26 bench points, while moving the ball effectively with 19 assists.
Defensively, Manhattan controlled the game from the opening tip. The Indians forced 23 turnovers, recorded 16 steals, and won the rebounding battle 36-19, limiting Andover Central to 32.6% shooting. The Jaguars never found sustained rhythm as Manhattan maintained control through all four quarters.
Manhattan continued to press its advantage after halftime, scoring 17 points in the third quarter and 13 more in the fourth to close out another wire-to-wire tournament win.
Andover Central, which entered the night 8-6, was led by Avery Unruh with 9 points, while Reese Wilborn and Ellyanah Perez scored 8 apiece. No Jaguar reached double figures.
With the win, Manhattan improved to 11-2 and advanced to the championship game of the 31st annual Mid America Classic, continuing a dominant two-day stretch at the Roundhouse.
In the title game, the Indians will face Olathe South at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons are led by center Eve Long, the nation’s No. 8 overall recruit (247sports) who set a tournament record 43 points in the Falcon’s semifinal matchup.
