Manhattan High boys’ swimming closed the regular season meet slate on Saturday at the Emporia Invite with a second-place finish.
The Indians totaled 441.5 points in a tightly contested meet, as Winfield won the team title with 449 points and Campus finished third at 434.
Manhattan set the tone early by winning the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Cameron Pfannenstiel, Koby Jones, Wallace King and Ezra Kohl touched first in 1:49.16, while Manhattan’s B relay also scored with a fourth-place finish.
Individually, Jack Dunn led Manhattan with a win in the 500 free, clocking a 5:18.44. Dunn also added a runner-up finish in the 200 free at 1:58.79, while Pfannenstiel placed third in the 200 individual medley.
King continued his consistency in the sprints, finishing second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free. Kohl added another scoring swim with a sixth-place finish in the 100 free.
Manhattan’s backstroke group produced a key postseason indicator, as Pfannenstiel earned a state consideration time in the 100 backstroke while placing second in 1:01.46. Collin Bunger followed closely in third.
The Indians closed the meet with a strong showing in the 400 free relay. The group of Dunn, Bunger, Pfannenstiel and King placed second in 3:34.98, a performance that also qualified the relay for the state meet.
Uo next is the Centennial League championship on Thursday, Feb. 12, hosted by Topeka High, with state prelims following a week later in Lenexa.
