‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ - ‘For The Third Straight Year,’ New York’s Educators ‘Power’ The New York State United Teachers ‘To The Top Fundraising Spot’

(ALBANY, NEW YORK) – For third straight year, New York’s Educators powered the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) to the top spot in donating dollars to benefit the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising effort.

NYSUT has ranked first nationally for the third consecutive year in fundraising for the American Cancer Society’s 2025 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign.

More than 540 local Teams from every corner of New York represented the Statewide Teachers’ Union at Making Strides events this past year.

Together, NYSUT Members raised $835,284 – far surpassing major companies that included Walmart and Chevrolet.

Top regional totals from NYSUT Fundraising Teams across New York State included: The United Federation of Teachers (NYC): $329,818; Long Island: $166,498; Buffalo: $86,462; Westchester: $61,162; Hudson Valley: $48,141; Utica: $26,102; Rochester: $25,369; Syracuse: $12,378; and Albany: $10,732.

NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer J. Philippe Abraham, whose Office coordinates the Statewide Teachers’ Union’s Social Justice initiatives, said: “NYSUT Members show what it truly means to be a Union Family by coming together to invest their time and resources in the fight to find a cure. Cancer touches every one of our lives in some way and that’s why NYSUT remains deeply committed to standing with our Members, their families and our communities in this fight.”

During that time, NYSUT Members have raised more than $18 million to support ground-breaking breast cancer research, ensure greater access to quality care, influence public policy, and provide critical patient support.
