A 35-year-old Upstate New York man died after police and emergency responders pulled him from a burning house late Saturday night.
Derek J. Fisher of Bath died at Ira Davenport Hospital after being rescued from a structure fire at 23 Warden Street in the village of Bath, according to the Bath Police Department.
Police responded to the fire at approximately 10:58 p.m. Officers observed heavy fire visible from the front of the residence upon arrival.
Members of the Bath Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police entered the residence and located Fisher inside. He was transferred to Bath Ambulance personnel and transported by Bath Ambulance and Steuben County Advanced Life Support to the hospital.
Three law enforcement officers were injured during the rescue effort. Two officers from the Bath Police Department and one deputy from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were treated at local hospitals for smoke inhalation.
Multiple fire departments assisted with the response, including Bath Fire Department, Bath VA, Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona, Painted Post and Wayne fire departments.
