WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The governor’s budget proposal does not include language allowing for additional state prison closures.
For the past several years, language in the governor’s budget proposals has given the executive office the ability to close state prisons.
Watertown Correctional was selected for closure under Governor Andrew Cuomo and closed in March 2021.
Under Governor Kathy Hochul, Ogdensburg Correctional closed in 2022. Bare Hill Correctional is set to close next month.
However, 7News has learned that under the current budget proposal, the governor is not looking for any further prison closures.
