Astoria residents will brave below-freezing temperatures to vote in a special election to replace Zohran Mamdani as their voice in the New York State Assembly—one of three special elections happening across New York City today.
Fighting for votes in Mamdani’s old 36th State Assembly district are Diana Moreno, Rana Abdelhamid and Mary Jobaida. The three progressive women each have immigrant backgrounds, a history of organizing, and are all members of the Democratic Socialists of America.
