As New York continues its push to go green, some state leaders are working to continue the momentum with electric vehicles.
Advocates and New York leaders are stressing the importance of bringing more trucks into the electronic fold. They say getting rid of diesel fuel would not only help the environment but also the health of New Yorkers.
The New York State Energy and Development Authority says it has already seen progress with this effort especially through the state’s voucher incentive program.
“Fleets are reporting positive feedback on the capabilities of these trucks,” said Adam Ruder, the NYSERDA deputy director of clean transportation. “Drivers like the quiet operating environments and not smelling like diesel fumes at the end of the day. And Mechanics have reported being excited about working on a new technology.”
Advocates say they want New York to provide more support for charging infrastructure, especially in port areas.
