An Upstate New York man has been arrested after allegedly throwing a hatchet in a road rage incident.
Tyler A. Donaldson, 48, of Hermon, N.Y., is accused of throwing a small axe at another vehicle in a road rage incident last summer. New York State Police said he was charged Monday, more than 6 months later, with reckless endangerment in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree (intent to use).
Trooper said they were first notified of the incident July 31, 2025. Police said an investigation determined a man driving a silver Toyota 4Runner became irritated with the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, which had slowed down due to road work on Star Road in the Clinton County town of Ellenburg.
Police the 4Runner operator, later identified Donaldson, passed the other vehicle and threw a hatchet. It struck the victim’s vehicle and caused damage.
Troopers said they later made contact with Donaldson regarding the incident. He agreed to report to NYS Police in Champlain for processing and was charged Feb. 2, 2026.
He was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Altona Court later this month.
Additional details were not disclosed. No injuries were reported.
Hermon is located in St. Lawrence County, approximately 80 miles west of Ellenburg and 120 miles north of Syracuse.
